Not-So Runaway Bride

My husband and I actually attended a wedding last Saturday in Duluth, Georgia--yes, THAT Duluth, Georgia, home of the way, way, way over-hyped "Runaway Bride"--but it wasn't THAT wedding. Life actually goes on in Duluth, with lots of weddings and brides that show up! It was strange, though, to come into downtown Duluth (a small community about 45 minutes north of Atlanta), and see all the news vans still parked all around the town square...what's left to talk about? And do we even care? (No!)

I was amazed to see, when we were checking out with our wedding gift, on the way to the wedding, at Target (don't laugh--I couldn't find where they were registered (Bed, Bath & Beyond, as it turned out), and who couldn't enjoy a gift card at Target--items for the home, the garden, camping equipment, whatever!)...I was amazed to see, on the cover of People Magazine: The Runaway Bride! I almost bought it to include with the gift (now that's funny!); but, although we are friends of the groom from way back, we had not yet met the bride-to-be, so we decided to err on the side of caution before overwhelming the poor woman, on her wedding day, with our special sense of humor. Probably a good thing. (Could be the reason why we had not yet met the bride...)

Just wanted the world to know--a successful wedding in Duluth, Georgia! In spite of the media circus, The Runaway Bride is an unfortunate, highly atypical situation, blown all out of proportion in the scheme of world events (coincidence with a slow news day). I, for one, hope the 15 minutes is almost up on this one--let the poor fool work it out with his crazy-eyed woman, and let's all get on with our lives!
