For a fascinating account of life with a new baby, see this week's Rebel Review:
DOWN CAME THE RAIN by Brooke Shields.

(I hope our good friends, The New Parents, won't mind a mention and a bit of fun at their expense! ;-)

"She sleeps! She nurses! She's got the cutest little gas and poops! She doesn't cry!"

Truly, The Perfect Baby.

Of course, this was on Thursday, after the baby was born on Monday, so she was only 3 days old. We congratulated our friends, held, snuggled and admired this new, precious addition -- and completely agreed, keeping our unwanted, unnecessary, and inappropriate parenting been-there-done-that 'wisdom' to ourselves.

Four days later, I heard from the New Father -- on his way back to work (so much for the Stay-at-Home Dad enthusiasm! ;-):

"She never stops crying -- we've tried EVERYTHING! This kid is wearing us out!"

And we can laugh -- chuckle a bit, fondly -- knowing it's their baby, their new parent experience -- no longer ours. (Of course, we still have the 6-year-old crawling into bed with us on occasion, so what do we know?!)

Of course, she's still The Perfect Baby. She's an angel. After all, she did give her parents three days, while she rested. They just didn't know they should have enjoyed the respite, and begun preparing for the next 25 years...
