Perfect Gift: Nintendo DS Lite Brain Age 2 Bundle

I have a secret: The cool, metallic red Nintendo DS Lite that I can occasionally be seen playing, when I'm waiting in the carpool line or elsewhere, does not belong to one of my kids -- It's mine, all mine!!

The kids and my hubby bought me my very own DS Lite Brain Age 2 Bundle (Crimson & Black DS Lite, Brain Age 2 and bonus carrying case -- conveniently looks like a little leather clutch wallet) for my 40th birthday, a couple of weeks ago. Actually, they bought it and gave it to me before my birthday, ostensibly so that I could "exercise" my brain and get back into shape for the GRE. Realistically, I think the kids wanted me to have my own game so I would quit commandeering theirs to play Brain Age, an addictive little brain-training game we purchased for our 7yo ADHD Phenom, to help him with focus and attention, stimulating various areas of his brain with these fun little games, tests and puzzles.

I mentioned it's addictive, certainly to 40yo women who like puzzles and tests (Sudoku, anyone?). To the 7yo ADHD Phenom, not so much, but he does play it. Once in a while. When we're waiting somewhere and he plays on my DS. (Very handy to have in my bag for just such emergencies.) I now have three games to choose from: Brain Age, Brain Age 2 and Big Brain Academy (also available for the Wii), which is the same brain-training concept, different delivery, and gives us a little variety.

Yes, so I have my very own DS, and I'm a geeky VGM (Video Gaming Mom).
I am not the only one:
  1. Target sale circular, October 7, 2007:
"DS Lite Brain Age 2 bundle --
a great bundle to get mom gaming!"

(With a picture of a youngish-mom (younger than me, anyway), playing her distinctive crimson & black Brain Age 2 DS Lite).

  2. My husband's friend bought his fortysomething wife a DS Lite Brain Age 2 Bundle for her birthday (with Big Brain Academy, too!), after hearing how much I liked mine -- she loves it! We've been comparing Brain Ages (20 - 70+) and competing ever since.

  3. Read my friend Neena's blog at A Mom's Life - Parenting Tips for Busy Families: Nintendo DS Lite for Grandma?
Neena makes an excellent point: The DS Lite Brain Age 2 Bundle could be the perfect holiday gift for older women on your list, especially if they enjoy puzzles and brain games -- don't forget Big Brain Academy, too!

Sherri,
You gotta love it! I might get one for my "daughter" (she's 4) for the holidays. Who do you think will use it more? And thanks for the link!
