GA House Education Committee Hearing for SB 167 (Anti-Common Core)

I am not sure what I am getting myself into today, or how/if this will go, with CoverItLive Live Blogging, but we'll seeā€¦

Join me later this afternoon for the highly-controversial Georgia House Education Committee Hearing for SB 167 (Anti-Common Core):

Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Room 606 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building (across from State Capitol)

It has been an interesting couple of days, regarding this bill, which has been passed by the GA Senate and will go to a vote in the GA House next Wednesday, March 12.

One place to start is with the actual reading of the now-18-page bill:
http://www.legis.ga.gov/legislation/en-US/display/20132014/SB/167

Unfortunately, it is not as easy or clear as a regular public citizen might hope, in trying to understand all the ins and outs.

Interesting analysis and coverage of the issue, with which I tend to agree, for the most part, can be found on the AJC Get Schooled Blog by Maureen Downey:
The anti-standards bill: A backwards state stepping further back as rest of world moves forward

If nothing else, these two sources alone will provide several hours' worth of thought-provoking reading material before the hearing this afternoon. I'll be there. The Live Blog will be here:
