The Rebel Housewife at Barnes & Noble

Well, I hope I didn't completely pooch our chances of book signings/author appearances at Atlanta-area Barnes & Noble stores today--my bad, I mixed business with pleasure, BEFORE lunch, with my three little monsters (affectionately, of course) in tow...I have never been so embarrassed. (Okay, I'm sure I have been, but this is fresh pain and therefore feels the worst!)

We went to Barnes & Noble to turn Haleigh's Summer Reading Club list for her free book. (Zach opted out of the program this summer--he has been "reading Gameboy" and Sports Illustrated for Kids all summer, after he burned through The Spiderwick Chronicles and decided he was done for the summer.) While we were there, a friend who works in that store introduced me to the Community Relations Manager--the guy who sets up author appearances and book signings. While we were trying to have a brief conversation about The Rebel Housewife...my children were running laps on the escalators from the first floor to the second floor, going up the down escalator--and worse. They were feeding off each other--on an evil energy high--and every time I picked Tiger (4 year old) up to try and get him to STOP, he started screaming at the top of his lungs. It was a disaster--the nasty looks I got!

Fortunately, the guy I was talking to was very nice--and believe me, I apologized and assured him my children would NEVER be out in public again, certainly not at any events we might do--they'd have to be out of their minds to have this woman do an event in their store, or any of the Atlanta Barnes & Noble stores--they were probably calling around a warning as I dragged my screaming children out the door.

It was a nightmare, and I was ready to sell all three of them in the parking lot, except Tiger was screaming and no one would have taken him.

We'll see how the bookstore tour goes..."Girl's Night Out w/The Rebel Housewife--NO KIDS ALLOWED!!!"
