Oprah Magazine - Shortcut to Bliss

Busy day, right back in the middle of things. Trying to do too much at once, as usual--just like in 2004, and every other year! While I'm working on proposal packages and upcoming interviews, wanted to share a taste from great article I came across this morning in O - The Oprah Magazine (January 2005):

Shortcut to Bliss
What lifts depression, jump-starts creativity, soothes jitters, muscles up immune systems, reignites sex lives, and zings your body with tiny arrows of pleasure? Would you believe: small--really small--amounts of regular exercise. Honestly, it's a miracle. David Servan-Schreiber, MD, reports:

[That's actually all the title & subtitle of the article, this is the little taste I wanted to share:]

"The more the natural mechanism of pleasure [endorphins] is gently stimulated by exercise, the more sensitive it becomes. In addition to relishing sex and life's other big rewards, people who exercise regularly actually get more pleasure out of the little things: their friendships, cats, meals, hobbies, even the smiles of passersby in the street. Essentially, it becomes easier for them to be satisfied. Such heightened enjoyment is the antithesis of depression."

It is a great article, and suggests starting with 20 minutes of moderate (he actually stresses easy and enjoyable) exercise, three times a week. The author assures us this will be addictive. I certainly hope so--and I will let you know, when I actually make good on the intentions I've been intending very intentionally every day of 2005 thus far...

[No, I haven't actually made it onto the treadmill or the yoga mat yet...I'm busy working, reading magazines, and stuff...]
