Bill Nye's PB&J - And a New Show!

It's good to see something great from your past come around again--

Twenty years ago, when we were dating, my husband and I used to go down to the KING-TV studios in downtown Seattle and enjoy live tapings of a comedy sketch show called Almost Live. It was hysterical.

"Almost Live" featured a cast of young, talented comedians, and a variety of quirky, funny characters. That's where "Bill Nye, The Science Guy" was born--we knew, from the start, The Science Guy was going places.

Nye hosted a long-running show for kids on PBS, called "Bill Nye the Science Guy," which was a wonderful introduction to science, and made science interesting, exciting, and fun for kids. He will soon be back on PBS with a new show, geared more toward adults, called "The Eyes of Nye," which promises to be just as educational, thought-provoking, and entertaining.

I read about it in this month's WIRED Magazine, and they list a website for the show that doesn't seem to be quite ready yet at http://www.eyesofnye.com. You can visit Bill Nye's fun science lab website at: http://www.billnye.com.

In the brief WIRED interview, I love Bill Nye's PB&J theory in science and humor:
"Humor is everywhere, in that there's irony in just about anything a human does. There's all this PB&J: passion, beauty, and joy. But there's also the futility of the whole thing. We're just humans on this dying planet, and it doesn't much matter what we do. We're always setting up expectations, whether scientific or otherwise, and failing to meet them. That creates comedic tension. The more you find out about the world, the more opportunities there are to laugh at it."

I couldn't agree more, and that's not fatalism or pessimism, it's a wish to focus more on the PB&J in the world, and Live, Love & Laugh--
