Camp Mommy/Spring Break - Day 4

We Belong in The Zoo!

It took us a long time to get up and around today, but we eventually made it out, after a deluxe PB&J lunch at home...

It was so good to get back to Zoo Atlanta today, one of our most favorite places; one of the best bargains for family entertainment in Atlanta -- and getting better all the time, with new exhibits, new programs and new animals! (I've said it all before -- see Best Family Value in ATLANTA in the Camp Mommy ARCHIVES.)

We got to the zoo late enough in the day today that all the distractions (the rock climbing wall, the train, and the carousel) were already closed. We had time to get an ice cream and walk around to actually see the animals, for a change. (Usually, we never make it past the rock climbing wall.) The crowds thin out after the main gates close at 4:30pm, and that last golden hour in the zoo, until 5:30pm when they herd everybody OUT, is the best time of the day. Everybody is relaxed, the animals are usually out and about, a little more active in the cooler part of the day just before dinner, and the zoo keepers and volunteers are very friendly and chatty.

We visited the Reptile House (a favorite spot now, ever since the first Harry Potter -- remember Harry's trip to the zoo with his cousin?), the Pandas, the Leopard and the Tigers (who are always very active during the Magic Hour), and we got to see a new baby Kangaroo (a "joey"), peeking out of his mother's pouch. It was a gorgeous afternoon.
