CAMP MOMMY Update: July 2006

Hello Rebels,

I am working on this week's features, around a loose theme of "Everything old is new again..." There will be some surprises and I think you'll enjoy the Rebel Reviews this week.

WE HAVE A WINNER in our July Book Giveaway!!!
(THE WHY CAFE by Jonathan Strelecky)
I will make that announcement just as soon as I hear back from the Winner, randomly selected from the email entries marked with the SUBJECT: WHY CAFE ENTRY and received by midnight, July 10, 2006. THANK YOU for your overwhelming response and participation! We'll do it again in August!

In CAMP MOMMY news, the summer marches on...wearily, at times. There are moments now, with all three kids at home, that I wonder how we will make it through the rest of the long, hot summer. We've been keeping busy with Electronic Entertainment Mornings -- I'll admit it! -- while I get some work done, and then getting out in the afternoons after lunch on various adventures, generally staying up way too late every night.

We've been spending a lot of time at the Georgia Tech CRC (Campus Recreation Center), which has an indoor pool with a waterslide -- you just can't beat getting wet. We have a very loose camp schedule, based on Tiger's swimming lessons and now diving lessons -- after a rather chaotic Kindergarten year ("He's so active!") and a disastrous attempt at the usual team sports (soccer, basketball), the recommendation was to get the child involved in "individual team sports" -- swimming, tennis, track, etc. He loves the water, and he is really enjoying diving. Who knows? We could have a future Olympian on our hands! (Don't all parents start having those visions whenever their child starts something new?!)

Another thing we have been doing a lot of this summer is Drive-In Movies at Atlanta's Starlight Six Drive-In. It is much cheaper, and a lot easier, to pick up dinner and pack up a cooler of drinks and movie snacks to go to the drive-in with three kids ($12 admission -- kids under 10 are FREE!) than the movie theatre ($6 - $8 admission EACH, plus Icees and popcorn, which will generally run at least $25). I'll post a quick review of the double-feature we enjoyed this weekend on Rebel Reviews: Pirates & Superman. (How's THAT for a double-feature for $12?! Actually, it was $18 because Zach is no longer "10 & Under" -- still, a bargain!)

On a last, totally unrelated note, I learned in last month's Vanity Fair Magazine (July 2006) that Carroll Shelby, of Shelby Mustang and racing fame, is the same Carroll Shelby as the brown-bag Carroll Shelby's Chili Mix you can buy at the grocery store, which we LOVE (couldn't be an easier Quick Meal!) -- I never knew! I love my Vanity Fair...and the August issue just arrived, with Hilary Swank on the cover.
