CAMP MOMMY: Good Old-Fashioned Summer Fun

A beautiful moment Friday afternoon: We discovered a very small pond of water in a barely-still-trickling creek in the Mason Mill Woods (Dog Park) in NW Atlanta. It's a very small park, but a magical, little woodsy oasis in our urban concrete jungle, well-shaded and cool.

Mocha The Dog ran around in the woods a bit with the other urban pups off-leash, and splashed in the creek, but not too much, because she's not really a water dog. The kids had a great time exploring the woods on well-marked trails and playing in the little pond, too. (They are definitely water dogs!)

They discovered...tadpoles!! It was indeed a beautiful moment, with all three kids working together -- no fighting, no bickering, no arguments -- to catch tadpoles, 9 of 'em!

We stopped at the pet store on the way home for a terrarium/aquarium-type habitat for our new pets. In an unusual summer sighting, we found one of our middle school teachers moonlighting over the vacation at the pet store -- happy coincidence: one of the science teachers, so he got us all set up, for less than $20. How cool is that?!

The CAMP MOMMY Learning Adventure continues...
