CAMP MOMMY 2008 - LAUNCH!

Well, I'm done. If the first day is the worst, and it's all up hill from here (in a positive way), then we're good to go:

Worst day. Check.
At least it's over with. Check.

I thought I was ready-steady for CAMP MOMMY this year: Older kids, new house, great neighborhood -- a pool, for god's sake!

Much to my surprise, by Wednesday of last week (the last week of school), I was freaking out, entering the blue funk of anxiety and depression (which, at least, is not nearly as bad as the black funk) over another summer of endless squabbling, bickering and temper tantrums (mine, not theirs). Of course, it could have all been PMS.

I got through the last days of school by splashing a little Bailey's in my morning coffee and nacho-bingeing by lunch. (Hey, it works for me, especially with end-of-year PTA/social requirements.) Saturday, Sunday and Monday, I jumped at every chance to "get off the property," as we say -- suddenly recalling every little errand and this and that. After an extended shopping outing Monday -- lingering at Home Depot to buy just the right flowers for our garden?! -- hubby took all three kids to Malibu Speedway for a couple of hours of unlimited go-karts, bumper boats and miniature golf. Bless him.

I enjoyed my time with the Mocha-the-dog in the nice, quiet house: I covered the bathroom windows with privacy film (from Home Depot -- awesome stuff!) and planted the aforementioned flowers in two large planter boxes on the front of our house. I am SO not a gardener, but there you go. On the front of our house that nobody actually sees, except for the UPS guy, because we live on a hill and everybody goes to the back door, by the smaller circular planter bed back there which has nothing but an ever-changing pattern of decorative holes dug up in it, surrounded by river rock. (Mocha's dirt sandbox -- now that's attractive.)

So I spent $100 and a couple of hours making the front of the house pretty for the UPS guy. I also spent an hour reading, positive thinking and what my new-age friend David calls "scripting," or journaling positive experiences, peace, love and harmony for Camp Mommy 2008...I am sure all that good karma and stuff will kick in tomorrow; must be on a 24-hour delay...
