Go-Kart Racing, For Real

We spent Saturday on a car trip, $4 per gallon gas notwithstanding, to, in and around Barnesville, Georgia, which is an adorable -- picture-book -- small town in "middle Georgia," about an hour south of Atlanta (but not when the Interstate 75/85 Southbound on-ramps are closed and you divert through Deep South Atlanta; it takes a lot longer then, and the scenery is definitely more colorful and interesting).

Anyway, we went to Barnesville on a go-karting research mission, to see races in the Georgia Sprint Kart Association at the Black Hills Circuit Track (a.k.a. Lamar County Speedway): "Originally built in the 1950's, LCS is a .5 mile ashpalt track with an oval option. We welcome sprint karts, shifter karts, mini-motos as well as other forms of racing."

It was hot, but it was awesome! We watched several races and talked to people about go-karting competitively -- the emergence of Caldwell Motorsports, ya'll -- I told you this was serious. Although, if The Rebel Housewife® is going to sponsor, it should be Rebel Motorsports, don't you think?!

We did not come home with a go-kart rig and all (or any!) associated expensive racing stuff (this time), but hubby did discover, even as a 42yo, he can strap into a go-kart and race competitively, too -- old man division.

God help us.
