SNOW in the South

In what has become our annual quest for SNOW after Christmas in Atlanta, we struck it rich this year, with three days of fun and play in the SNOW over the last weekend of Winter Break.

On the first day of our adventure - Saturday - we drove two hours to Scaly Mountain Outdoor Center in North Carolina. We had planned to go earlier during the vacation, but the weather was not cooperative for man-made snow -- and that's all we got down here so far this year.

Scaly Mountain is a roadside resort, kind of rustic, with a snow tube run during the winter and activities all year around. We arrived late in the afternoon, for the last run of the day, 4:00 to 6:00pm. There was one tube run operating, with a rope tow to the top of the hill. There was a very small "bunny hill"/kid's play area, but the ice skating area was not iced or operating -- it was a mud pit, suitable for wrestling, maybe, not much else.

There was quite a crowd and the line for tubing was long at first, but it thinned out after 5pm, for the last hour. The kids had a great time, but opted to leave out a little early for a drive-thru dinner and some geocaching on the way home.

Ticket prices were $22 each for two hours, unlimited runs.

"Scaly Mountain Outdoor Center" is a great family vacation spot. Kids love this place very much.

Thanks for sharing.
