Halloween Fun: You've Been BOO'd

Since I almost managed to be a Halloween Baby almost 40 years ago (Oct 27, 19??), October 31st is a Big Day for us. The whole, wonderful month of October officially kicks off our Holiday Season, so we are one of those, perhaps-tacky, maybe-a-little-redneck families with plenty of Halloween-themed decor throughout the house and yard from Oct. 1 - Nov. 1, including a 6-foot, air-blown Frankenstein and three large, carved faux-pumpkins on the front porch. (I am not even a bit embarrassed.)

Anyway, in the wonderful, spooky Spirit of Halloween, I'm "BOO'ing" ya'll online, and this is how it goes, so you can pay it forward, and go have some fun with your kids, BOO'ing in your neighborhood:

Pretend you have been surprised with a knock on your front door (after dark), and you open the door to find a small goodie bag, with two ghosties attached (cut from 8 x 11 white paper, with black eyes and mouth). One of the ghosts has "Happy Halloween--I've been BOO'd!" written across the front; the other ghost has the following poem written on it, containing your Halloween greeting and chain-letter-type instructions:

"The Phantom haunts you happily
now through Halloween,
and was delivered by a friend who,
hopefully, was not seen.
The Spirit of the neighborhood
has come to wish you well.
Someone, somewhere, selected you
To receive this happy spell.
You must display the Phantom so all can spy
that you've been haunted by this special guy!
Then fix two sacks of goodies
like the ones given to you.
Ring someone's bell and leave a bag
and make them happy too!"

Happy Halloween!!!
