CAMP MOMMY 2008 - Bowling & Scoops

It's 5:30pm, Day 9 of 55, and I'm exhausted. I don't mean to complain or whine at all -- I am a lucky, lucky mom. Just tired. There are moments when I think, "I'm not going to be able to do this," but having been up since 3:30am doesn't help.

Today, we decided to follow 50 Ways to Keep Kids Active - Tip 34:
On a really hot day, take your kids bowling or skating.

We live very close to Midtown Bowl in Atlanta, so we decided to stay close to home and save gas today. We had lunch at Wendy's ($20) -- sorry, the food at MB is traditionally not the best, even compared to Wendy's -- which is right across the street. Then we bowled for an hour ($15/hr + $4/ea for shoes = $31). It was a long hour.

Bowling is tough enough, as far as the challenge of getting the ball down the lane to hit anything, which tests their patience, enthusiasm, sportsmanship and manners. Even with gutter bumpers. Bowling in public is that much more of a challenge. We saw several moms/nannies at the bowling alley with their kids. We even saw people we know and like, which was great. The only problem: everybody else, with their one or two children, seemed to be having a good time without sibling stress and tension. By the end of it, I felt like the floor show. My kids can be not very nice to each other, especially in a competitive environment, despite my gritted-teeth enthusiasm, optimism, positive attitude, cheerleading and role modeling. (I bowled, too -- without the gutter bumpers.)

I think I have decided, as far as bowling goes, we'll save the $$ and play Wii Bowling in the privacy of our family room. Maybe we'll try again later this summer, but I'm too tired to think about it.

On a related note, I went out and bought my first Summer Bucket o' Scoops* last night at Publix. I couldn't find the On The Border Buckets I love so much. This year, it's Master of Mixes Big Bucket PREMIUM Margarita Mixer -- with NEW Dispensa-Rita(TM) Spout!
It printed out on the grocery receipt:
M O M Marg Bucket $6.99

I thought that was just perfect.

*By the way, a "scoop" is a frozen Daiquiri/Margarita (depending on the alcohol you add to the mix), scooped out of one of those On The Border drink buckets -- Mom's "slushee" (yum).
