Another October

October was an incredible month. Even with the cold, hard fact of turning forty, it was one of the best months ever, as it usually is every year. (So far, November is proving to be quite lovely, too -- it's payday!!)

We had one of the best nights ever for Halloween and trick-or-treating last night: clear and crisp, but not too cold; a slight, spooky breeze and lots of crunchy leaves underfoot; still lots of colored leaves on the trees. This was the first year I can remember, of the last 13, that someone was not sick, or running a fever. 10yo Drama Queen tried, with a small fever on Monday that kept her home for the day, and she's still sniffling and coughing a bit, running tired, but she was able to rise above it last night for an evening of neighborhood Halloween Pizza Partying and then an hour or so of trick-or-treating in the Midtown neighborhood of Atlanta, which was really, really cool.

There is something magical about groups (not gangs) of children and parents out on the street, going door-to-door socializing, decorated houses and glowing pumpkins, adults making such a nice effort for the kids (especially at the scary houses, and those giving out the giant pixie sticks or full-size candy bars), neighbors mingling and everybody having a great time. Oh, and then there's the candy...(I have only had one piece so far, an irresistible Charleston Chew - yum!)

For Halloween this year, we had two cows (making use of old costumes we had in the dress-up box)(I don't know why we have cowsuits in the dress-up box): one "Crazy Cow," in clown get-up over his cowsuit; and the other, the "Devil Cow," with red, sparkly horns and an enhanced tail on her cowsuit; and one cowboy (the younger brother). Fortunately, I got one picture of all of them together, and then, for the first time ever, 12yo Puberty Angst Boy went off to a Halloween Party and trick-or-treating separate from us, in another neighborhood, with his friends. I called him when we were all t-o-t exhausted and ready to head home, about 8:30pm, and he said: "No! You can't come pick me up yet, we're having too much fun!" This was the little pumpkin I held in my arms just ten years ago...sniff!

And all of a sudden, the holidays are upon us again!!
