Life & Death

We enjoyed a Cinco de Mayo Celebration of Life with our friends this weekend, our rowdy bunch from the old, old neighborhood. This Cinco de Mayo tradition started 13 years ago, when we moved into our first house in Atlanta, before we had kids. (Well, we brought one in with us, but he didn't join us on the outside until January 1995.) Our friend who is sick, and his wife, back then our new next-door neighbors and soon-to-be close, close friends, always hosted the Cinco de Mayo party, every year, even after our close little group started leaving the 'hood. We left in 2000, movin' on up across town for a bigger house and better schools. Everybody has moved away now, one even as far as California, but we were all there, together again this year, at our friends' new home. We took the celebration up to them in Alpharetta, about 45 minutes North of Atlanta.

Isn't it strange, the sure way to gather people back together is weddings and funerals. Fortunately, we didn't wait for the funeral. Hopefully, we've got more time left to get together again.

I want to mention, and thank my new friend, Rebel reader, and fellow Blogging Mom, Sue at www.momeorganizer.com, for her comments of reassurance and support recently, and for a beautiful post on her blog this weekend: What Doesn't Kill Us Makes Us Stronger.

Have a great week!
