The Rest of The Top 10...

6. LOVING The New Jane Pauley Show, which premiered Monday, August 30. I don't watch a lot of daytime TV--never, actually, but I've been trying to keep up with the shows that we might eventually be on: Oprah, The View, LIVE w/Regis & Kelly, Good Morning America, The Today Show, etc...that's a lot of TV! (Fortunately, the websites are great, so I don't have to watch them all every day.) I really enjoy The New Jane Pauley Show. She is focusing her show on REAL women and REAL stories that we (women in our thirties, forties, and beyond, all shapes and sizes) can relate to. Jane Pauley is down-to-earth, warm, funny, and very REAL and open about her own life and challenges. It's so refreshing and reassuring to enjoy a show that is interesting and entertaining, without being celebrity-driven, flashy, and hyper-energetic (without naming names, 'cuz I just might have to cozy up to those people someday!).

7. Mental Health Days - In the first four weeks of school, Zach and Haleigh have attempted numerous Mental Health Day escapes from school already, succeeding three times (Zach once, Haleigh twice). What's up with this?! Now, I'm all about enjoying Mental Health Days--once in a while! In fact, there's a whole chapter in the book, Chapter 28 (page 122) - Mental Health Days, and I wrote it, so I guess I can't blame anyone else when my kids start taking advantage of Rebel Housewife Rules...it's just that everytime THEY manage to convince me they are TRULY sick and need to come home (only to oh-so-magically feel SO much better by the time everyone else is coming home so they can go outside to play...NOT!)--my entire day gets out-of-whack! Which is why I'm catching up TODAY (Sunday) on a Top 10 List I started WEDNESDAY--and I'm still cleaning up from the online contest and have yet to announce the winners! (I know who they are...and I'll tell you soon! ;-)

8. As far as physical health, and working out (for which I can never seem to find the time), the kids are helping me out: As of last week, we've been riding bikes to school everyday except Friday. It's just one mile to school and one mile back, and there are some good hills to get the heart going and the legs hard as a rock! More about this in the column...

9. Sherri at The Improv! I started a six-month once-a-week Improv Class at Atlanta's Whole World Theatre/Comedy Club last Monday--and I LOVE it! This is SO out-of-character for me--I'm a WRITER, for god's sakes!--and I still don't know exactly what I've signed up for, but that first night, which was just orientation and meeting the rest of my "cast", I felt so at home and in the right place. I looked into Improv as a way of making the transition from Writer to Speaker/Performer--to be more at ease in media interviews and appearances and to help make The Rebel Housewife (The Redhead) into more of an entertainer. I didn't realize at the time that six months from now, I would be appearing ON STAGE LIVE for the graduation show...I can't even think about that right now!

10. What I'm Reading Now: A Home at The End of The World by Michael Cunningham. It is SO good! The movie version, with Colin Farrell, was just released this summer. I picked up the book for an online book study with the author at Barnes & Noble--the study starts September 7, so there's still time to buy the book and register FREE for the book group if you are interested. Click here for more info.

In other news...tree issues, neighbor issues still pretty much suck, but enough of all that for now!

Amazon.com Sales Rank: 1,731,353

Has it been "forever" since we've talked? It seems like it, and it has been a week...so much going on! Let's do a Top 10 update today, and we'll be all caught up so tomorrow we can announce the WINNERS of the Very First Ever...REBEL HOUSEWIFE ONLINE CONTEST! (You still have until midnight tonight!)

1. The response to the contest has been PHENOMENAL--thank you all so much for your support and enthusiasm! In 10 days, we've DOUBLED the number of Rebel Housewife subscribers, from just under 100 to more than 200, all by your referrals and passing it on...you are AMAZING.

2. The book is available--30% discount!--on Amazon...and we are SCREAMING up the Amazon Sales Rank (did you notice?!). Okay, I don't know about SCREAMING, but certainly enjoying movement and momentum, and we have a long way to go to #1 on October 27th--oh, I haven't told you about that yet, have I? I will boldly announce here: The Rebel Housewife Rules: To Heck With Domestic Bliss! will be an AMAZON BEST-SELLER on October 27, 2004. More details SOON... (Don't wait to order your copy NOW--and if you are like my mother-in-law and sister-in-law and want signed copies in bulk: Order from Amazon (use the link in the sidebar!) and have them sent to me. I am happy to sign and send the box on to you so all your Rebel Housewife Rules will be signed originals--from Sherri, anyway. (We'll have to figure out a system for Vicki in Hong Kong--email privately for details: sherri@rebelhousewife.com or vicki@rebelhousewife.com.)

3. The Rebel Housewife (The Redhead) enjoyed a radio interview Sunday afternoon on The Barry Farber Show on Talk Radio 1290, a FOX affiliate station in Texas. Barry Farber is a legend in radio broadcast, and a lot of fun to talk to. He managed to shake things up a bit (remember, I'm still new at this!) with a few unexpected questions about divorce and an old spanish saying he learned in high school about love and beans and onions...(yeah, me too--???)...but we did indeed enjoy a "hot seven minutes of fun and enrichment" (his words) as promised. As soon as we work out some of the technical issues, we'll have some audio available of the various radio interviews--each one is a learning experience! We're also working on The Rebel Housewife Press Kit for the website--you should see the To Do List on various projects here! (As Vicki would call it, the "Fun List".)

4. The next event on the schedule is a book signing at the SEBA Trade Show (Southeast Book Seller's Association) Sunday afternoon. I'm all stocked up with Rebel Housewife bookmarks, promo postcards, and coffee mugs from my friend Rose at Designables, Inc.. Got to have the goodies!

5. I'd have to describe this whole process of launching a book and book promotion as kind of like a job search...when you get your resume together, put your whole life on the page (which always made me feel so inadequate--but that's just me!), and then send it out there to a dozen or so potential employers...and you don't hear anything back, because of course this is not the biggest thing in THEIR lives, and they've got all the time in the world and lots of other things to do...and you just wait...you throw a little "checking in" or "more news!" note out there once in a while, but not too often, because you don't want to screw it all up by being too eager or annoying...you wait, and you don't hear back, and you start to feel like the most unqualified, untalented, unwanted loser...that's kind of how it is. Lots of stuff out there, many things "in the works", but nothing happening THIS MINUTE--and you know, patience is NOT a Rebel Housewife virtue! ;-)

Neighbor from Hell - Last Word (for today)

I know I'm probably not the World's Best Neighbor. I try, I really do. And I've never had such problems. I also know that even though I have the Neighbor from Hell, that doesn't make me the Neighbor from Heaven...far from it! I have to remember, as much of a pain in the rear as my NFH is, I'm probably her Neighbor from Hell, too--and it's likely to get worse. Not because I'm going to do anything--I don't have time to engage in this Betty Buckhead kind of stuff--but simply because she can't let it go. What's next?

[Big Sigh]

Okay, ya'll--back to work!
